Six Year Old Jokes
"I've had a frog in my throat lots of times, but this is more of a tadpole in my nose."

And he totally didn't mean to be funny.

Of course after laughing my ass off, he had to go and start TRYING to come up with funny jokes....

Power generation (Music Meme)
Step 1: Put your music player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line (or so, some are hard) from the first 21 songs that play
Step 3: Post and let everyone guess what SONG AND ARTIST the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly
(No lyric hunting! That is cheating!)
Step 5: After doing the 1st 21, listen to one more random song and post it as your title.

Financial Humor
Forwarded to me; personally I'd take half that:

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve
It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S.
Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife team has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college - it'll be there

Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car - create jobs

Invest in the market - capital drives growth

Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves

Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who
lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting
back. And, of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ("vote buy") economic incentive that is being
proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S
Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it.

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work."

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion

We Deserve It Dividend more than do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5
Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,

Birk

T. J. Birkenmeier, A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic

PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it's either good for a
laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85 Billion!!

Edit:

Unfortunately "Birk" can't do math. From the person who originally sent this to me:

A couple of you did the math. I didn't bother. My bad.

The person's numbers don't work. It's $425 vs 425K.
It did sound too good to be true.

Still very amusing idea.

106 books meme
ganked from dayo...and then later seen on the LT blog...

What we have here is the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you read for school, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish. Here's the twist: add (*) beside the ones you liked and would (or did) read again or recommend. Even if you read them for school in the first place.

I'm gonna add a + next to the ones I actually have on my shelf so you can see what a loser I am :)

The source of this image is the amazing Girl Genius webcomic/quarterly comic GN from Phil and Kaja Foglio: http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20071231 (note that this is the intro for a side story, not the typical or main storyline of the comic; for something more representative, you can see http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20071130, though I'd recommend you start at the beginning)

In the interest of balance (which some folks could learn to try on) here are a couple sites I have come across in the last 24 hours that actually engage with the skeptics arguments instead of waving them away as obviously bogus. Still digesting them.....

Yet another take on global warming:

http://www.nzcpr.com/guest76.htm

In another forum I've read reacently it's been noted that the IPCC's estimates for likely temperature change over the next hundred years have gone from the very significant 2.5 deg C to under 1 deg C. They've dropped steadily. Is there any reason to expect that these folks really know as much about what they claim as they want us to believe?

Crichton on Global Warming, Again
http://www.michaelcrichton.net/speech-ourenvironmentalfuture.html

I don't think I've seen his diagrams before, just read his verbage. I still think he tells a pretty compelling story, even if his examples sometimes ring false (comparing building a house to the future of the planet?? What??). I especially like the ending.

My ISP is FIRED.

During that first three hour outage, I called the tech support line.

83 minutes later with no answer (aside from "your call is important to us and we will be with you shortly"), I finally hung up.

If I were on call this weekend, I would have been soooo screwed.

If the image above is missing, I'm probably offline again.

Good to see Lieberman is still a traitor to his party. Maybe the voters who elected him will start feeling some shame for not realizing that he's really a republican. Not that Lieberman alone would have made the difference, but even so.

ganked from [info]dayo:

Here is how it works. Copy this list. Leave in the bands you've seen perform live. Delete the ones you haven't and add new ones that you have seen until you reach 25. An asterisk means the previous person had it on their list. Two asterisks means the last two people who did this before you had that band on their list.

1. Dan Fogelberg
2. Rush (x)
3. Pink Floyd
4. Psychic TV
5. Cake
6. Brave Combo
7. Webb Wilder
8. Eurythmics
9. Tori Amos
10. The Orb
11. Ani DiFranco
12. Negativland
13. Dave Matthews Band (x)
14. They Might Be Giants
15. Erasure
16. Sarah McLachlan
17. Damien Rice (x)
18. Rufus Wainright (x)
19. Erasure*
20. Soul Coughing
21. The Iguanas (x)
22. The Jackofficers (aka half of the Butthole Surfers)
23. Happy Family
24. Amy Denio
25. Front 242**

That was a lot of work. The bands I chose to mark with (x) I would never have gone to see if it weren't for other people, mostly my wife. If you include opening acts and no-names I find it a hard stretch to think I've seen more than 50 bands live, ever, so it was very hard to come up with this list.

What a bizarre mix of bands :)
